About the LSA Student Award 2017
The award is open to students in full or part time education at a college or university in Leicestershire, studying a foundation course or degree course in any art or design discipline.
• The main prize for the winning work is £400. Two runners up will also win £100 each.
• The winning works will be included in the LSA Annual Exhibition 2017 (17 November – 16 December 2017) at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Leicester.
• West End Gallery will also provide exhibition opportunities in the gallery for work by the winner and two runners up in 2018.
How to enter the award
Fill in the application form below to register for the Student Award 2016 and click ‘Submit’. The deadline for applications is midnight on Friday 28 July 2017. Please allow time for uploading your images by the deadline.
After you have registered your application online, you will receive an email from us, confirming your application. The email provides a link to your information, where, using your password, you can view and upload your images and add or amend your personal statement.
Upload images of your artwork by midnight Friday 28 July 2017. You may submit up to three works, subject to the following size restrictions:
2d works: unframed work may be submitted to the award but must conform to the following when framed for exhibition: W:200cms x H: 200cm maximum. We cannot accept video or film this year, as we are not able to show this in our exhibition.
3d works: there are no size restrictions for free-standing 3d works, but sharp or unstable works will be excluded on grounds of health safety and electric works (other than battery powered) are not accepted. Fragile 3d works (that need to be displayed inside cased plinths for exhibition) must conform to the following maximum dimensions: W:50cm x D:50cm x H:100cm.
What happens next
If you have registered your application you will receive an email from us with your login. Use this to access your online information, add an Artist Statement and upload images.
The deadline for receiving images and Artist Statement is midnight on Friday 28 July 2017.
A shortlist of works will be chosen by our selection committee from the submitted digital images on Monday 31 July 2017.
The list of shortlisted students will be announced on this website on Tuesday 1 August 2017
The shortlisted students must deliver their works to the gallery: West End Gallery (107 Highcross Street, Leicester LE1 4PH) from Friday 18 August – Tuesday 22 August [tbc].
Round 2 judging by the selection committee will take place at West End Gallery on Wednesday 23 August 2017
The final winner and two runners-up will be announced on the LSA website on Thursday 24 August 2017. West End Gallery will cover the cost of framing the main winner's work, in collaboration with the winning student.

Presentation of prizes to the Winner and Runners Up: The prizes will be presented to the LSA Student Award Winner and Runners-Up at the evening Preview of LSA Annual Exhibition on Thursday 16 November 2017 (6.30 to 8.30pm) at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.
LSA Annual Exhibition 2017 runs from Friday 17 November to Saturday 16 December 2017 at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Leicester.
Collect unsold work: Sunday 17 December 2017.
