Art and Design students were invited to compete for an opportunity to show their work in the LSA Annual Exhibition 2018 (9 November - 8 December 2018) at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery. The LSA Student Award 2018 is open to students studying an art or design subject and in full or part time education at a college or university in Leicester or Leicestershire in 2018.

Cash prizes will be awarded and the winner will be given a solo exhibition at Cank Street Gallery in 2019.  The winning works by the runners up will also be exhibited at Cank Street Gallery.

Winner: £400  |  Two Runners Up:  £100 each


Applications for the award closed on Friday 27th July 2018 at midnight.

How to apply

Applicants were required to complete the online application form on the LSA website, then upload digital images of up to 3 artworks via secure login. An artist’s statement may also be provided.

Fees

It is free to apply for the LSA Student Award 2018.

Artwork

Digital images of artwork must be uploaded via a secure login by midnight Friday 27 July; the final selection of winning work will be made by the panel after viewing the original shortlisted artworks.

Up to 3 works may be submitted to the competition.  Size limits for the original work:

2d works: W:200cms x H: 200cm maximum. Unframed work may be submitted to the award but must conform to the total size restriction when framed.

3d works:  No size restrictions for free-standing 3d works.  Fragile 3d works that need to be displayed inside cased plinths for exhibition must conform to the following maximum dimensions: W:50cm x D:50cm x H:100cm. Please note that sharp or unstable works will be excluded on grounds of health & safety; electric works (other than battery powered) are not accepted.

The following will not be accepted: video, installation, sound or performance art.

Shortlist

A shortlist will be drawn up by the LSA Student Award Selection panel to go through to the final stage of the competition.  The results will be posted on the LSA website on Wednesday 1 August 2018

Delivery of shortlisted work to Cank Street Gallery for final selection

Shortlisted students must bring their work during gallery opening hours to Cank Street Gallery, 44-46 Cank Street, Leicester LE1 5GW for the final selection from Tuesday 7 August to Monday 13 August.

Selection panel’s Decision

The winner and runners up will be posted on the LSA website on Wednesday 15 August 2018.

Framing of Winning Work

Framing of winning work, if required, will be undertaken free of charge by Cank Street Gallery for exhibition, in collaboration with the student.

Information for winners

Delivery of work for LSA Annual Exhibition 2018 - Winner and runners up should deliver their work to New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Saturday 27 October 2018 from 10.00 – 12.00 (time to be confirmed)

Collection of unsold work from LSA Annual Exhibition 2018 - Sunday 9 December 2018 from New Walk Museum & Art Gallery  10.00 – 12.00 (time to be confirmed)

Solo Show for Winner in 2019 - to be arranged with winner by Cank Street Gallery.  Cank Street Gallery will also exhibit the winning works by the two runners-up in 2019.
