Information for shortlisted students

Shortlisted students must bring their original works on Sunday 22 September 2019 at 10.15am to Crown Hills Community College for the next stage of the competition:

and collect later the same day between 1.45 and 2.15pm

Delivering your work and parking:  Please do not enter the College from Gwendolen Road. Instead, please use the entrance located on Ethel Road on the south side of the campus. As you approach the building, bear right, where you will see a large car parking area, with direct access to the College canteen, which we will be using to view your work.  

There will be signs from the car park to direct you.

Collecting your work - Please collect your artwork as close as possible to 2.15 p.m - access to the building will be available until 2.30 p.m. at the latest.

All artwork must be in its original form. (ie. not photographs or giclée prints of your original work)

Photography is accepted only if this is the original form of the artwork.

Framing of shortlisted works is not necessary.  If your work wins a prize, the LSA will cover the cost of framing the work by West End Gallery in collaboration with you.

About the LSA Student Award 2019

Art and Design students are invited to compete for an opportunity to show their work in the LSA Annual Exhibition 2019 (8 November - 7 December 2019) at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery. The LSA Student Award is open to students studying an Art or Design subject at a college or university in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland in full or part time education in 2019.

Art and Design Students who have already graduated in 2019 are also eligible to apply for the Award.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners at the preview of LSA Annual Exhibition 2019

Winner: £250  |  Two Runners Up:  £100 each

How to apply

You may submit up to THREE works to the competition. First, complete and send the Application Form below.  We will send you an email, with a login to the competition.

Upload your digital images at any time, but before the deadline on midnight on Saturday 14 September 2019. 

Artwork (below) - for details of what you can submit to the competition. You may also enter an Artist Statement. It is free to apply to the competition. 

A shortlist will be announced on this website on Wednesday 18 September 2019.

Shortlisted Students must bring their original works to Crown Hills School & Community College Leicester on Sunday 22 September 2019 between 9.15 and 9.45am for the final stage of the competition, and collect their work from 1.45 to 2.15pm the same day. 

The winners will be announced on this website on Monday 23 September 2019


Up to THREE works may be entered for the award.

As the winning entries will be displayed at the LSA exhibition at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery in November, please bear in mind the following:

2d works: Maximum size - W: 200cm x H: 200cm. Any media.

Framing - Unframed work may be submitted to the competition.  Professional framing of winning work, if required, will be undertaken in collaboration with the student and the cost covered by LSA.

3d works:  For free-standing 3d works there are no size restrictions.  However, if your work requires the protection of a cased plinth, each work must be no larger than: W: 50cm x D: 50cm x H: 100cm. Please note: sharp or unstable works are excluded on grounds of health & safety at New Walk Museum, and electric works (other than battery powered) are not accepted.

Video, installation, sound or performance art cannot be displayed in the LSA Annual Exhibition.
