Hugh Collinson's working life was in art education as a Lecturer. He was also a County Council Education Adviser and the author of several book on art eduction, and illustrated books of local history.
Leicester Mercuy published a series of his articles between 1979 and 1983 which formed the basis of 'Rural Rides in Historic Leicestershire', published in 1981, and 'Rural Rides in Leicestershire and Beyond', published in 1984. His illustrations are beautifully crisp and ideally suited to reproduction, and his paintings had the same qualities of compositional strength.
Hugh Collinson joined Leicester Society of Artists in 1935 and rexhibited regularly in the LSA Annual Exhibitions up to 2000. He took part in 61 exhibitions with the society, and beame an Honorary Member of the society.
