Deborah's inspiration comes directly from the landscape and work that began one frosty morning with a frozen puddle, has brought her international acclaim.

Photograph of icework in progress by Deborah BirdHer residencies exploring notions of erosion and climate change include The Grand Canyon and Crater Lake National Parks USA.

Deborah uses location-based sketching and photography to gather ideas.  Back in the studio, these are developed into intricate paper structures which she sets into sheets of ice. These ice and paper compositions are then photographed out on location where the intricate compositions take on the ambient colours of the natural setting.  The final cropped but unmanipulated images are available to purchase as limited edition giclee prints.
