This exhibition showcases selected portraits from Leicester’s permanent collection, dating from the 16th - 21st centuries. Different cultures have sought to make and preserve images of themselves or their communities since prehistory, as a record of their lives and as a means of immortalising themselves for future generations.

The display includes portraits by Michael Landy, Chila Burman, John Bratby, Allan Ramsay, Philip Downs and Sarup Singh.
