ArtReach has commissioned Maroon, a new piece from Nayan Kulkarni as part of Night of Festivals South Asia (14 - 19 August 2017) that marks the 70th Anniversary of Indian and Pakistan Independence and a celebration of the spirit of South Asia and cultures from the region.

Artist Nayan Kulkarni discusses the inspirations and personal stories behind Maroon, inspired by the multiple implications created in the moment of Indian and Pakistan Independence. The installation has been developed from personal and family memories of migration, return and tradition. An exploration of what it is to be part of a diaspora, marooned between place and identity, this free talk will look at Nayan's personal memories of partition and the meaning of this momentous event to his life.
