We are delighted to announce that our 135th annual exhibition in 2020 will go ahead (subject to COVID safety updates) at a later date than planned.
For 135 years members of Leicester Society of Artists have come together to create an exhibition of their work at New Walk Museum (now Leicester Museum & Art Gallery). The only year we didn’t have an exhibition was 1915 so we are doing all we can to make sure that we can still present an exhibition in 2020, despite everything that is happening.
For many of our members this is their main showcase of their work in their home city and much loved museum, while for others it is part of a portfolio of exhibiting their work in the UK and overseas. It is particularly important this year when there have been so few opportunities for artists to share and sell their work and to create the networks and connections which lead to more exciting developments.
We have taken this year’s challenges as opportunities and will be trying some new things this year, including showing small square works in the exhibition. We will have a professional film made of the exhibition and will create a full online version of the exhibition so people all over the world can experience and explore some of the finest art created in Leicestershire.
We are pleased to have been able to keep up our tradition of awarding prizes for selected works and will also be able to take votes for our popular People’s Prize through our website. Prizes will be announced at an online celebration event for members and invited guests in early December. Please support the artists and the museum by visiting the exhibition if you can, and enjoy our online version and film at our website after the exhibition opens.
