artwork by Vishal Joshi

Vishal Joshi, Buttercup Babe 2, mixed media on glass, 30 x 40 cm

Vishal Joshi

Meet the Artist:  2 - 3pm

"My work is an exploration of identity," says Vishal Joshi. "I am interested in the factors that makes us who we are, those that we choose and those that we do not. I question societal norms, labels and rules; humanity itself is a big influence within my work. Painting is the tool that enables me to speak my mind. I aim to remain experimental with concepts, mediums and techniques but I stand true to what engages me – mark making, technical ability and a deep conceptual and philosophical vision. This diptych is a part of a series where I am exploring reflective and transparent surfaces to convey ideas about our environment and the impact it bears on us."

artwork by Linda Sharman

Linda Sharman, Evening Light, Venice, oil on wood panel, 36 x 36 cm

Linda Sharman

Meet the artist: 3 - 4pm

"I paint a lot from memory every day places, people, the feel, atmosphere, colour and light," says Linda Sharman.  "In this painting I am trying to capture the mystery and ambiance of beautiful Venice. Starting by layering colours, then picking out figures, form and light to set the scene, having a memory or picture in mind."

linocut by Mandeep Dhadialla

Mandeep Dhadialla, Tulip Daze, linocut, 23 x 27 cm

Mandeep Dhadialla

Meet the Artist:  2 - 3pm

"My method of working up a reduction linocut print begins with an initial, loose plan of the colours and number of layers involved," says Mandeep Dhadialla. "The print then evolves naturally as layers are built up from light to dark or taking them down again from dark to light. Some linocut prints incorporate a monotype technique of inking up the blocks as in a painterly approach, blending colours directly on the lino block, resulting as unique prints within an edition. The colour palette is sometimes exaggerated to reflect the glowing equatorial light and its luminosity on plants, enhancing the vibrancy of their colours.”

Artwork by Deborah Bird

Deborah Bird, St Ives, mixed media, 28 x 28 cm

Deborah Bird

Meet the Artist: 3 - 4pm

"Lockdown trips round the UK are the inspiration for this new series of abstracts," says Deborah Bird. "The two paintings  in this exhibitoin are from a series of works which have their origins in Cornwall. The colours and shapes of the landscape inform the composition in watercolour and oil pastel. Copper leaf details are a nod to the historical mining industries in that area. Both designs are available as limited edition silk scarves via my website at www.deborahbirdart.co.uk ".

Saturday 30th October 2021

artwork by Vivienne Cawson

Vivienne Cawson, From the Garden 2, watercolour & gouache, 39.5 x 45 cm

Vivienne Cawson

Meet the Artist:  2 - 3pm

"Pattern, colour and natural form are the focus for my floral watercolours," says Vivienne Cawson. "Inspiration is sparked by the colours and shapes of flowers, gorgeous fabric, a special jug or vase. The contrast of natural form with geometric pattern is often a strong element in my work.

I aim to produce a response in my painting that is fresh and contemporary, not merely a faithful reproduction and am inspired by the information set out before me to produce a spontaneous reaction. It is an exciting journey which I hope helps to keep my painting alive with fresh, vibrant colour."

artwork by David Clarke

David Clarke, 'September', watercolour 50 x 28 cm

David Clarke

Meet the Artist - 2-3pm

"A very gestural watercolour endeavouring to capture the mood and atmosphere of the month of September," says David Clark. "Intentionally no detail, just visualising the colour and light of a fading summer with as few brush strokes as possible."

artwork by Danielle Vaughan

Danielle Vaughan, Solitary Stag (in Sepia and Turquoise), collage 50 x 50 cm

Danielle Vaughan

Meet the Artist:  3 - 4pm

"My practice has two strands," says Danielle Vaughan. "I create collages from ripped paper and platforms for collaborative participatory projects inviting others to work alongside me around societal issues. The connecting thread that runs through both are slices of humanity sifted through a playful lens of medicinal humour. My work has featured on Sky TV's 'Portrait Artist of The Year' series and is in permanent collections at Blenheim Palace and Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. I was shortlisted for the Market Harborough Museum's Suffragette Art Fund 2019 and recently completed my MA in Fine Art at De Montfort University. My time is divided between working from my home studio in Leicester and running workshops."
