The 124th Annual Exhibition of Leicester Society of Artists showcases the styles of 74 members of Leicester Society of Artists– an opportunity to see the diverse range of art by talented artists in this area.
There is a large selection of new artworks on display - sculpture, original prints and painting including oils, acrylics, watercolour, gouache, collage and fabric and stitch. Five prize winning artworks were selected by John Lancaster, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, Faculty of Art and Design, De Montfort University - see images below.
The exhibition attracts a strong interest with visitors and buyers drawn from a wide geographical area, including many from abroad.Most works are for sale, and new to the show this year are unframed original prints for sale in the museum shop.
The 124th Annual Exhibition of Leicester Society of Artists was launched at the preview on 22nd April 2009 by The Lord Mayor of Leicester, Cllr Manjula Sood.

The subject has been explored with a strong compositional structure and this is supported by tonal contrast and a variety of painterly textures. These elements have created an impressive and powerful painting.

A beautifully composed and meditative painting. The palette is economic but perfect in harmony and balance. The hint of nature on the right hand side adds a further visual interest.

A small painting that is visually dynamic, with sensitive brushwork and a delicate balance of colour.

A sensuous painting with a variety of subtle textures and surfaces. The lemon yellow, pale ochre table and mat, and shining violets are a perfect colour combination.

In contrast to the other paintings by Alan, this one is more raw, both in paint handling and orchestration of colour.
