I enjoy making something out of nothing, transforming a lump of clay into that which I consider desirable. I am a great lover of process, be it using printmaking, photography or clay. The discovery of new surface, form and technique is what excites me; it’s like being an explorer, an inventor.
My early works were ‘installations’ in ceramic using the notions of ornament and belonging. My present work is somewhat back to basics and back to the wheel, handmaking ceramics in order to make a living. I employ the traditional techniques of English slipware as a canvas for the pictorial. I live on a traditional working farm taking inspiration from the flora and fauna that surrounds the domestic world of the farmstead.
