Call For Entries

The British Art Prize 2022 is a major national art competition, offering exposure to winning artists of all levels. This is your chance to gain valuable publicity and recognition for your work. Whether you’re an amateur, emerging artist or professional, your artworks are welcome, with all styles, media and techniques considered.

To celebrate The British Art Prize 2022 joining up with Edding, there will also be a one-off extra prize: the Edding Acrylic Prize. The only requirement is the submitted painting is completed in acrylic.

The British Art Prize offers an unprecedented level of national exposure over three major magazine brands. It also provides artists with the chance to sell their artwork to a combined audience of almost 1,000,000 art lovers and collectors.

There is a whopping prize fund worth more than £15,000. This includes cash prizes, art supplies, editorial coverage in Artists & Illustrators magazine and the chance to be included in an exhibition at gallery at OXO in autumn of this year. Shortlisted artists will be invited to a prestigious private evening reception alongside artists, collectors and other VIP guests.

First Prize
The overall winner of The British Art Prize will receive a £3,000 cash prize, a seven-night luxury AmaWaterways river cruise for two on the Seine worth over £5,000, a £250 gift voucher from Rosemary & Co, a six-page feature in a future issue of Artists & Illustrators and the winning painting will be shown at an exhibition at a major London gallery.

Second Prize
A £500 cash prize, a Derwent Lightfast Wooden Box (including 100 Lightfast pencils), a Lightfast Paper Pad 12 x 16 worth (together worth £520) and inclusion in the Artists & Illustrators British Art Prize winners’ special issue. The winning painting will be shown at an exhibition at a major London gallery.

Third Prize
A £500 cash prize, a £500 worth of Schminke Horadam Supergranulating watercolours and inclusion in The British Art Prize winners’ special issue where a branded 10-page editorial will include images of all the shortlist and winners. The winning painting will be shown at an exhibition at a major London gallery.

The Edding Acrylic Prize
The only requirement is that your painting(s) are completed in the medium. The winner will receive £500 worth of edding acrylic materials and inclusion in the Artists & Illustrators British Art Prize winners’ special issue. The winning painting will be shown at an exhibition at a major London gallery.

People’s Choice Award
A £1,000 cash prize, a Pegasus Art voucher worth £500 and a feature in the January 2023 issue of Artists & Illustrators. The winning painting will be shown at an exhibition at a major London gallery.

How to enter
Entering The British Art Prize couldn’t be easier. Simply visit artistsandillustrators.co.uk/britishartprize and fill out the online form. Attach digital photographs of your artworks when requested and click the submit button to complete your entry. The entry fee for the first artwork is £18 and £15 for any additional artwork.

Selection process
Submissions close at 5pm on Sunday, 31st July. Our panel of judges will select a shortlist of 50 artworks, including the three top prize winners and the edding acrylic prize. The People’s Choice Award will be decided by a public vote.

The British Art Prize 2022 shortlist will be announced online on Friday, 30th September and in the November issue of Artists & Illustrators.
