Artist and Illustrators Magazine features portrait demonstration in oils by Jane French as she explains how she pays close attention to eyes and glasses while painting from a photo.
The six-page demonstration shows steps from the painting process, putting in the darkest values, followed the mid-tones, putting in the lightest tones and adding details and background.
"I loved the way light was falling onto Fiona's face, creating dramatic shadows and beatiful bursts of light," says Jane. "I have already painted a portrait of Fiona as part of my One Hundred Heads project, but I also thought it would be interesting to have another go at trying to capture her transparent glasses, demonstrating how much colour there actually is in or on them."
