Seed Walk

Time - 12pm-4pm

Led by - Saintly Amok

Free event - everyone welcome

As part of Belgrave Library Takeover through Spark Children's art festival, artist Saintly Amok will be holding a seed session at Belgrave Library where families can choose the seeds they want to grow and make origami seed parcels. Saintly Amok will later lead a procession with children holding the precious seeds and parents creating a saree canopy as we walk through the park and then create a bed of pots and plant our seeds. Potted seeds can be taken away at the end of the activity.

This work was inspired by a childhood memory of planting methi and marigold seeds in the back yard of our terrace house. The seeds were covered over with old sarees, to protect the young shoots from the sudden frosts at this time of year. The procession and installation re-activate this practice of re-using textiles, an industry which is part of Leicester's industrial landscape and also one that is responsible for current environmental concerns.
