I paint abstract pictures mainly in acrylic but also use collage and mono-printing techniques. I’m attracted by decay and dereliction of the built environment and texture plays an important part in much of my work.

The unpredictable journey of making an abstract image that has no narrative and does not symbolise anything but has to exist in its own right is fascinating.  I cite the Artist Patrick Heron’s remark that "a painting is not a vehicle for meaning but is in itself the meaning". and Whistler who said “a picture should have its own merit … independent of all clap-trap’’.  I use the formal elements of colour, form and texture to create work that has no external references. In this way, the viewer is compelled to connect with my work through their own sensibilities and experiences, hopefully providing a unique journey of visual discovery.
