In large part, it is probably as a result of having spent so much time in life drawing rooms with a model who is sat motionless hour after hour in silence, that I have developed a fascination with  'stillness'.  The spaces between things and events.  The model, frozen in time, waiting.  A 'dead time' a silence where so much can happen.

The physical qualities of paint are still an integral part of my expression, and flesh tones provide an excellent conduit for a painterly response.  It's also about balancing the painterly figurative elements with a good abstract design.  When painting the figure, each sitting adds another layer.
