My work is usually abstract although sometimes abstracted landscape elements are clearly visible. My process is usually long and very, very slow! I make many layers of thin glazes, sanding and scratching away to reveal hidden gems. The theme of refugees is close to my heart. I first became interested as a teenager and have done a lot of design and art for Amnesty International over the years. I have made work about the plight of Tibetan refugees, the practice of carrying people like cheap goods in containers and the Syrian crisis. And still this insane story goes on... Myanmar, Kurdistan, Ukraine. We sell weapons and prop up dictators then complain when the refugees from those genocides end up on our doorstep. I'm not out to shock - other artists do that much better. Instead I want my work to be subtly thought provoking whilst beautiful enough to hang in a home.
