“Our impulse to make Art goes deep,” said Lars Tharp, new LSA President, opening the exhibition at the free preview on Thursday 15 January 2015.
"Drawing is probably where most of us began our explorations in art. Making drawings is a vital element in art practice and has been with us through the ages."
2015 started with a new exhibition by Leicester Society of Artists at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery in the centre of Leicester. An exploration of the place drawing plays for artists, Simply Drawing shows the diversity of this ancient and most fundamental of techniques.
Drawing has a rich history and continues to push the boundaries of its dictionary definition. This was recently acknowledged by royal status being given to the newly named Royal Drawing School founded in 2000 by the Prince of Wales. The UK has set the bar when it comes to recognizing the importance of drawing as a primary language and vital component of the fine arts.
