The drama underlying everyday life interests David Maddock. His most recent body of work arises from a residency at Leicester Contemporary shortly after the pandemic. City life gradually returned to a modified version of normality as routine patterns of behaviour resumed and social convention was reasserted. Both sights and sounds conveyed the transformative process.
David says:
"It is the idea of normality that I address in my recent work, normality in a time of change. Appearance tells some of the story, but visual metaphor can speak of an underlying process of change that manifests itself in the everyday life of a provincial city.
That for me is sufficient. I want to say something about the experience of ordinary life as we now live it."
