Artist and illustrator Di Lorriman brings her home town to life in 'Benchmarking Ashby de la Zouch', a visually rich publication first released in May 2025. Supported by Arts Council England, the book combines watercolours, ink work, local history, cartoons, and caricatures to celebrate the town through a distinctive imaginative lens. The publication is currently being reprinted, reflecting strong interest in this vibrant and original work.
"I love a spot of sketching whilst I 'people-watch' in a comfy café! Can it get any better? My 'go-to' medium is watercolour, often combined with penwork, and I really enjoy painting landscapes in the open air. I like to add my imagination onto a subject, using colour and penwork to bring out narrative," explains Di.
Di Lorriman has researched and painted a series of 26 A2-sized historical cartoons for children. These paintings are on display in Ashby de la Zouch Museum.
