Jane Adams is a multidisciplinary artist whose work draws inspiration from the natural world and an enduring fascination with oddness and otherness. Her practice embraces a wide range of media, including painting, pen and ink, printmaking, mixed media, and film and digital photography. She also works with vitreous enamel, creating jewellery and more experimental pieces on copper, using enamel in a painterly way to evoke landscapes and abstract imagery.
Alongside her visual art practice, Jane is an established novelist, mentor and teacher of creative writing. Although writing has been her principal professional focus in recent years, she has previously exhibited at a number of venues, including High House Gallery in Stafford, Bury Art Gallery and Museum, ArtHouses in Leicester and Chelsea Town Hall. She has also regularly exhibited and sold her work at art fairs.
Since returning to her visual art practice, Jane has discovered a renewed sense of creative freedom, with her interests and choice of media expanding in unexpected directions. Printmaking and pen and ink have become increasingly prominent, while she continues to rediscover her love of oil painting, enamelling and analogue photography, particularly using vintage cameras and black and white film.
Her work reflects an ongoing curiosity about materials, processes and the possibilities of artistic expression, bringing together familiar techniques and new approaches in an evolving creative journey.
“My work is inspired by the natural world, by oddness and otherness, and by the possibilities of exploring familiar subjects through different media and techniques. It’s a demanding but fascinating creative journey.”
