Mary Harrison

"I am originally from London but moved to Leicester for work in 1982. Some time before moving I had given up my teaching job to pursue fine art at St. Martins via the Central School of Art. Life and personal circumstances prevented me from following this direction, resulting in a long and varied career in education. Retirement from full-time employment in 2010 gave me the chance to paint again, and since then, I have been increasingly consumed by my need to paint. " 

Mary displays an interest in the depth and complexity of everyday objects. She explores subjects using different perspectives to reveal the unusual in the usual, so that her work frequently tends towards abstraction. She works with mixed media and particularly likes working with charcoal. She uses a limited colour palette on textual backgrounds to create big and bold statements. These qualities are evident in her current artwork.
