Rick Tuck studied at Loughborough College of Art and Design in the late 1960s before pursuing a career as a graphic designer in Manchester and Leicester. In 1995, he established his own design business, continuing to work on commercial projects alongside a lifelong passion for making art. In recent years, his personal artistic practice has become his main creative focus, leading to exhibitions in Leicestershire and Cornwall.

Working with a diverse range of materials, including wood, metal, acrylic, glass, paint, found objects and discarded materials, Rick explores his fascination with typography, letterforms, assemblage and construction. His work often brings together seemingly unrelated objects, giving them new meaning through unexpected combinations.

Collecting is an important part of his creative process. Objects may be stored for years before finding their place in a piece, while others inspire an immediate response. His approach is intuitive and experimental, involving the continual moving, arranging and reworking of elements until a satisfying balance emerges.

Rick has a particular affection for old and discarded objects, valuing their history, character and connection to the past. Through his work, he explores the relationship between materials, memory and the enduring visual appeal of letterforms.

"I have a long-standing love of typography. Much of my work includes letterforms that are painted, printed or three-dimensional. I've always been drawn to old objects. They seem to hold a sense of stability and continuity, offering tangible links to the past and a feeling of belonging. I feel a sentimental attachment to old things, as they seem to suggest permanence and longevity."
