I approach my art as a series of projects. That poses problems that require investigation, experimentation and developing new techniques and skills.
‘Gaudium’ is a construction that breaks the bounds of 2D painting. It colourfully bursts out of the canvas. Framed traditionally. Within a perspex vitrine. It takes on the form of a precious artefact giving it a false sense of importance. ‘Gaudium’ (Latin for happiness) adds to the whimsy.
‘Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown’, shows the conflict between the spiritual (circle) and the material (angles, squares). Referencing both Shakespeare’s Henry IV and the Crown of Thorns.
