Sue Clegg is a multi-media artist who explores connections and memories associated with places, people, objects, and stories.
Surface presented Clegg, winner of their Derby Open 2024 prize, with a solo exhibition opportunity in their smaller gallery space 'La Loovre.' The show explores colour and line using various materials and techniques including printmaking vinyl and textiles.
“Drawing informs much of my work. The sketching process brings inspiration and a sense of connection to a place” Clegg explains. “I love the concept of using small spaces to create opportunities for artists to showcase work."
Work has been developed in response to the original print that earned the award inspired by sketches made during visits to Cumbria and the Lake District over the past few years. Ideas emerged during the installation process when Clegg worked ‘out of the frame’ directly onto the walls of the exhibition space. 'aka Brain Dump' in the title refers to a constant and often overwhelming flow of ideas Clegg experiences during her creative process.
